The department of Political Science was established in the year 1973 at the undergraduate level. It was started with a view to cater to the needs of the socially backward and economically weaker students of the drought-prone Rayalaseema region.


Though most of the students come from rural region and belong to low income group, they are highly industrious as revealed by their performance in the university examination.

The students have achieved very good results in the university examinations. The average pass percentage of the results is shown in the following table for the last four years.

The students of this department have also excelled in various extracurricular activities like sports, NSS, NCC.

Many of the previous batch students passed their degree and they are in good position. Some of them are pursuing their higher studies at various colleges and universities.



The extent of coverage of syllabus as per the annual plan is reviewed periodically in the departmental staff meetings convened by the I/C of the department. The syllabus is covered as per schedule.

Some topics, which are not in the syllabus, but useful to the students are taught in theory to enable them to acquire knowledge in the latest developments of the subject. More over they will be of use if they wish to pursue higher studies.

At the beginning of each academic year an annual academic plan is prepared, where in the entire syllabus is divided into a number of teaching units. Copy of annual academic plan of the lecturer is submitted to the principal.

Bridge course is considered to the I year students in the beginning of the course to benefit the students who do not have Biotechnology al the +2 stage. Bridge classes are also taken before starting some new chapters to introduce the subject.

The department of Political Science has conducted awareness program on voter registration as part of consultation to the Revenue Department, Kadapa. Totally 250+ new voter enrollment forms are presented to them in the month of December 2013.

The teachers are constantly in touch with the wards and interact frequently with students, solving their problems and counseling whenever required. The Final year students are advised to join the P.G. courses. The students who cannot afford to join the P.G. course are advised to join B.Ed. course to become teachers.
